Ya’ara Saks is a long-time community advocate with a proven commitment to making life better for families in York Centre and Bathurst Manor. She is a successful local small business owner, a dedicated mother of two teenage daughters, and a strong advocate for better access to mental health services. She is also the director of Trauma Practice for Healthy Communities, a local charitable organization.
Ya’ara has a firsthand understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing our community at this important moment. She knows the hard work and dedication it takes to create community engagement and achieve real progress, with a Canadian and global perspective built on years of experience in advisory roles for policy, communications, and project management in both Canada and Israel.
She believes deeply in the values of equality and diversity, and has devoted her career to addressing societal inequalities and making life better for today’s Canadian families. Ya’ara holds an undergraduate degree from McGill University in Political Science and Middle East Studies, and a Master’s Degree from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in International Relations and Diplomacy.
